The Houston Rose Society

If you plan to grow roses in Houston there is no better investment of $15.00 than to join the Houston Rose Society. They can be reached at P.O. Box 226l4, Houston, Texas 77227-2614.

When you join you get a subscription to the best rose magazine in the United States, The Rose-Ette. This is a monthly publication geared for growing roses in Houston-in our heat and our humidity. There is always an article telling you what good rosarians are doing each month. It will mention if we are having problems with spider mites or blackspot, and what you can do about it. It will tell you whether to fertilize or whether we need extra water. It is geared to our community and discusses problems here in Houston, not in New York City!

The Rose-Ette is filled with around ten pages of local information about growing roses. Consulting Rosarians are listed by area of the city. These are folks who are extremely knowledgeable about roses and who have volunteered to help out the rest of us when we have questions about problems with our roses. Feel free to call them.

The Houston Rose Society meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Garden Center in Hermann Park. Each month's program is listed in The Rose-Ette. The business portion of the meeting is kept blessedly short. The meetings are usually attended by between 100 to 150 people interested in roses. Great guest speakers are always scheduled. Meetings start at 8:00 pm and are over by around 9:30 pm. Come and join us. You'll love it.
