(In Alphabetical Order)

Another Place in Time
421 West 11th Street, Houston, Texas 77008
(713) 864 9717

This is a small nursery with a big selection of ferns. If you want a fern, this is the place to go. Definitely worth a visit.

Brookwood Community Nursery
Located 3/8 mile south of Interstate 10 at 1752 FM 1489
(Exit No. 731-Koomey Road)
Brookshire, Tx. 77423
(281) 375 2149

This is a great nursery. I have always had great success with the plants. The plants are reasonably priced and the one gallon plants tend to be larger than most one gallon plants at other nurseries. The nursery is part of the Brookwood Community Center. The plants are raised by the special needs residents with loving care that shows in the finished product. Lots of Texas natives and plants for hummingbirds and butterflies are offered. It is a long trip from Houston, but absolutely worth it. This is a little-known nursery that you must visit!

Buchanan's Native Plants
611 East 11th Street
Houston, Texas, 77008
(713) 861 5702

This is my favorite nursery to buy native Texas plants. The selection is awesome and the staff is knowledgeable. Buchanan's also sells mulch, books, herbs, water garden plants and garden art. A great place to spend some time.

RCW Nurseries, Inc.
15809 SH 249
Houston, Texas 77086
(281) 440 5161

This nursery, located on the far north side of Houston, is gigantic. They have almost everything a gardener might want, including plenty of selections one is unlikely to find anywhere else. This place is so big that you should plan to spend a couple of hours just browsing. Also, on the Saturdays you are likely to find RCW sponsoring events such as author signings and mini-lectures. Worth the trip.

San Jacinto Stone Company
195 Yale Street
Houston, Texas 77007
(713) 868 3466

OK, so they don't sell plants. But this store sells the healthiest rocks in Houston. All suitable for our heat and humidity. But seriously, rocks add a great finishing touch to your garden. And San Jacinto Stone has a wonderful collection. Most rocks go for from 6 to 10 cents per pound. They also have water garden supplies.

Southwest Fertilizer
5828 Bissonnet
Houston, Texas 77081
(713) 666 1744

Don't let the name fool you. This store has a whole lot more than just fertilizers. In the front is nice selection of current vegetables and bedding plants. But where Southwest Fertilizer really shines is in its selection of organic products. Almost anything an organic grower might need is available, and at good prices. Whereas many store offer small packages of organics like greensand and bat guano, Southwest Fertilizer usually will have the 50 pound sacks at a fraction of the cost per pound that you will pay for small bags. The selection in this store has to be seen to be believed. It also has lawn mowers, string cutters, garden implements, bird seed and feeders and much, much more. This store has one of the most helpful and friendly staffs in town. Always worth a visit in person, or take a look at their web page at yardgeek.com
