Texas Bar Foundation:
Continuous Member Since 1995

by Donald Ray Burger
Attorney at Law

According to Tom Cunningham, Chairman of the Board 1995-1996, "The Texas Bar Foundation exists to advance the cause of Justice in Texas by funding educational and charitable activities directed to that end. The Texas Bar Foundation supports research, publications, forums, scholarships, institutes, programs and projects of demonstrated worth and need. The Texas Bar Foundation is where Texas lawyers organize to demonstrate their commitment to public service, in the best traditions of our profession. Fellows of the Foundation are selected for their manifest professional achievements and their demonstrated commitment to the betterment of our Texas community."

Since it was established in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded hundreds of grants totaling millions of dollars to educational and charitable activities throughout Texas. The grants have funded many projects that provide direct legal services to thousands of Texans in need, as well as programs to strengthen our justice system.

With fellowship limited to one-third of one (1%) percent of the members of the State Bar of Texas, only those who meet the strictest standards of the profession are chosen to serve. To be elected for this lifetime honor, attorneys must be nominated from the districts in which they practice, be found worthy of membership by the Foundation's Trustees, and be willing to pledge financial support to the Foundation's work. I was accepted for membership in 1995 and have maintained my membership.
