March 31, 1909: Works begins on the Titanic, with the construction of the hull on dry land.

May 31, 1911: Titanic launched.

April 2, 1912: Titanic begins her sea trials.

April 14, 1912: 11:40 pm: Frederick Fleet, lookout in the crow's nest, spots an iceberg, 500 yards ahead. Titanic strikes iceberg 37 seconds later.

April 15, 1912: 12:45 am: First lifeboat is lowered into the water, with only 28 aboard.

April 15, 1912: 2:20 am: Titanic sinks.

April 20, 1912: Date Titanic was scheduled to depart from New York

September 1, 1985: Robert Ballard, aboard the Knorr, locates the Titanic's debris field.
